If we fully grasp what is being suggested by Jesus in His time on Earth—so much about how we interact with other people will need to change. Join Pastor Matt Smallbone as he considers what it means to be an “Unsung Hero” and how to live out Jesus’ calling in the way we treat those around us.
Matt Smallbone is a pastor, author, and former touring musician who now serves as the lead pastor of Church of the City Downtown in Nashville, Tennessee. Originally from Australia, Matt spent over a decade traveling the world as a bass player for artists including Michael W. Smith, Rebecca St. James, and for KING & COUNTRY before stepping into pastoral ministry.
His teaching is marked by honesty, accessibility, and a deep desire to help people move from knowing about God to actually walking with Him. After years of struggling with prayer himself, Matt committed to a simple but transformative practice—praying the Lord’s Prayer every day for a year. That experience reshaped his understanding of prayer, turning it from something routine and uncertain into a steady, meaningful connection with God.
Matt now shares from that journey, helping others overcome common barriers to prayer and rediscover it as a personal, life-giving relationship with the Father. He lives in Nashville with his wife, their four children, and their rescue dog, Rosie.
